Well everyone... Thanks for joining us on our first annual Italian Job Run for Charity! We had a great turn out. We had a couple of adjustments to the planned event (things could have been smoother- and next year they will!) We had a great time!

The Anderson family won the event, and the right to select the charities that will receive all profits from the event. They chose a 50% split between Alzheimer's Association and American Red Cross. More information about this donation will be posted later this week.

Here is a link to photos of the event:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/ij2007/

IF you have photos you would like to share with us, please do one of the following...

People can share photos by creating their own Flickr account. It's free to host up to 200 images or so. (Then we can create a GROUP that links all of these different Flickr accounts together as one large group)

Contact Richard or Charlie and we can have you mail us a CD of your photos and we will do the rest for you. (If you only want to send one or two photos you could email them also.)

Next up, a survey will be posted here to get feedback from the event to help us make a better one, and to capture some of the stories that unfolded on the day when the MINI's took Los Angeles!

Hope you guys will join us next year!

below is original, last post prior to event -----------

Announcing:
Italian Job Run For Charity (Updated 8/19/07) - Run Detail Announced - Optional METRO Segment

[How far will you go to get the gold?]
There is one segment of this run, where at your descretion, if you have two people per car, one can ride the Metro to Union Station and answer some questions about the tunnel experience while the driver is above ground racing the meet up, answers a couple of question on their own. I rode the metro several times in preparation for this run, and it is safe, and unique.

IF for whatever reason your car choses not to have someone ride the metro, say for example, you are the only one in the MINI!, or you just don't want to, that is okay, you will just proceed on surface streets like the other cars.

**PLEASE BE READY TO TELL US AT THE START ON SATURDAY, IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE RIDING THE METRO.**

[SPOTS STILL AVAILIBLE]
THERE ARE STILL ABOUT 20 SPOTS AVAILIBLE. (THE CUT-OFF FOR DINNER IS WEDNESDAY 8/22/07 at 12 NOON.)

[DEPARTURE TIME]
We will be leaving promptly at 11AM. Don't be late, arrive no later than 10:45AM. Look for the "gold dollar sign" in the sky at the starting location.

We will have a approximate five hour drive with multiple stops and lots of twists and turns as we relive the plot of the 2003 Italian Job movie! We will end this near the intersection of the 5 and 134 freeways near Burbank.

Think of this as a cross between a poker run, The Amazing Race and Jeopardy, with some live action excitement, all in the spirit of the 2003 Italian Job movie.

"The Italian Job Run for Charity

Where does it start?
in Marina Del Rey:

Line up and meet facing the West on Coral Tree Place
(between Alla road and Beethoven st)

(behind Home Depot in Marina Del Rey)
Home Depot Address:
12975 W Jefferson Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90066
Marina Del Rey, CA

Arrive at this location by 10:45AM (Be ready with a full tank of gas
and all 4.8 quarts of oil you should have)

Departure Time: 11AM Sharp!! Don't be late, or you will miss the information handout and run.

Where does it end?
will end near Burbank the 5 and 134 Fwy. The Optional dinner is at Buca De Beppo Italian Restaurant in Universal City.

What will we do?
We will travel to Venice, Hollywood, and parts in between retracing the steps it took to get the money back. The run will be approximately 5 hours long with multiple breaks and stops. Having a good knowledge of the movie would not hurt.

After the prizes are awarded, we will gather for a nice social dinner at Buca Di Beppo Italian in Universial City at the Universal Citywalk. (See below for the meal info)

How many cars?
This run is limited to 50 cars.

When:
August 25th, 2007

Why:
To have a fun afternoon and evening following the money trail, while raising money for charity. 75% of the money paid will go to charity. 25% will be used for prizes. Everyone will walk away a winner! (Of some sort at least)

Requirements:
This run requires;
• A MINI Cooper (Classic or New)
• Two people are recommended per car.

Prizes and take aways:
The winning car will get to select the charity the money goes to from a list of well known charities. They are:

American Cancer Society
American Diabetes Association
American Lung Association
American Heart Association
Alzheimer's Association
American Red Cross
American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Boy Scouts of America National Council
Cure Autism Now
Doctors Without Borders USA
First Star
Girl Scouts of the USA
Operation Gratitude
Make-A-Wish Foundation of America
World Wildlife Fund

With any luck there will be some great prizes available, and this is still being worked on....

Photos will be taken of each car at several stops on this run. They will be made available after the event.

Each car is guaranteed to receive:
A nice color booklet with instructions, rules, trivia and more about the Italian Job movie

and.... a gold ingot brick... well, not a real one, but a real nice fake one!

(Please note that the price of dinner, drinks and gas are not included in the $25 per car entrance fee.)

Here is the menu and the choices for the meal which is optional by the way, but you must pay in advance if you want to attend.

$28 per person

Optional Dinner prices include all of the following:

Insalate (select one)
Mixed Green Salad
or Caesar Salad

Antipasti (select one)
Garlic Bread
Magherita Pizza

Entrees (select one)
Chicken Parmigiana
Eggplant Parmigiana

  • and the dinner is separate and optional, but I certainly hope you can join us for a rip roaring time!!

I set the items to be tax free, so not exactly sure why it's doing it. I'm working on it.

Hey Charlie,
What about a "Motoring Badge"? Have you tried to work that in possibly since this run is for charity? MINIUSA would be able to assist with this.

Seems there is a known "tax" bug in the version of the software I'm using. I've been meaning to upgrade it for the past 6 months, but have put it off--guess there's no better time than now! Upgrade in progress...
